Spanish 1 presents the basics of the Spanish language as spoken in Latin America. Students learn greetings, basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and get a glimpse of the Spanish-speaking world. Students develop a beginning conversational ability, laying the foundation for further study of the language. The course emphasizes understanding and practical application rather than rote memory.
ESL introduces students to basic structures and vocabulary of the English language through the skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students learn strategies in order to advance their reading, listening, and pronunciation skills. They expand oral comprehensibility and write complete sentences, a standard paragraph, and short content-based essays. They utilize level-appropriate conventions of grammar and punctuation with a minimum of errors.
